Outdoor Adventures {May 23 - 29}

Reagan had a rough week last week, and we stayed inside the WHOLE week. (There will be another post about that later.) I decided this week we would spend every day going on an outdoor adventure. There are so many awesome places right here in our county to explore that we never even had to leave Spartanburg county. Of course we learned a few life lessons this week too.

Monday: We went to Boiling Springs community park. Reagan likes the playground equipment, and there is a nice green space and walking trail to explore.

She can climb in and out of the car on her own now!

One of her favorite things to do is pick up trash. She really likes to throw it away. In theory that is a nice gesture, but she still has a habit of putting her hands in her mouth, and there is some pretty yucky trash out there.

We walked so much that she went home and took a three hour nap.

We had a fun and exhausting Monday adventure. After nap time we spent the rest of the day playing in the backyard.
Lesson learned: Always carry hand sanitizer. My child has a special ability to find the most tiny piece of dog poop.

Tuesday: We visited Hatcher Gardens on Tuesday. This is a really pretty garden and woodland preserve right in the middle of the city! There are plenty of pretty flowers and plants to look at. Reagan likes to pick flowers so much that I was worried, but she kept her hands to herself. There was also a lot of wildlife to observe.

She is ready to take off.

I asked her to sit on the bench for a picture. She was there for 3.5 seconds, so this is the best I could get.

The setting was so pretty that if it weren't for the constant roar of traffic you could almost forget you were in the city.

Just marching along.

We were headed to this pretty stone wall to have a seat. Do you see anything suspicious?

This little guy was sticking his head out of the stones getting some sunshine. It was so still that I almost thought it was a toy. We keep our distance from all brown snakes, because I am not great about identifying them. After sending the pictures to Chris he confirmed that it was a harmless Northern water snake. I thought it was neat, and Reagan couldn't have cared less. She just wanted to know why we weren't taking a break.

We had fun and really enjoyed seeing the plants and wildlife. We also say a owl, but I couldn't get a picture. Reagan is getting more brave about walking ahead of me. I'm not too sure that is a good thing.
Lesson learned: Snakes like to sit on rock walls too. Check twice before you sit down.

Wednesday: We went to the Chinquapin Greenway on Wednesday. SPACE, which is the Spartanburg Area Conservancy, provides protected lands around the county so that residents and visitors can get outside and enjoy the natural beauty in our area. We have visited two of the SPACE areas so far, but this is the first time we have gone to the Chinquapin Greenway.

Before an outdoor adventure a girl needs to eat, She just doesn't need to use her spoon.

She is ready to carry her baby like I carry her.

This is the trail we intended to take. We were going to walk from the parking area to all the loops and back.

These steps were at the beginning of the trail, but we went up and down them 4 times. You know...to warm up.

And then we got to the first creek crossing. And this is as far as we got. Once she realized there was "wawa" to play in, she cared nothing about walking through the woods.

I didn't get a picture, but I literally had to carry a dripping wet, screaming child out of the woods. She probably could have stayed in that creek all day. It was a fun time for her. The rest of the afternoon we spent playing in the yard with the dogs.

Lesson learned: Don't forget your extra pair of clean socks, and go ahead and pack an extra pair of shoes too.

Thursday: On Thursday we went to Tyger River Park with MOMS club. We love going to activities with the MOMS club because that means there is always a friend to play with. This is a very big park with two huge play structures, a big sand box, and a splash pad.

Reagan was all set to go with her bucket and shovel.

She was not a fan of the sand. She wouldn't let go of me.

Break time!

Break time again! It was hottttt out.

We had a good time. We will have to check this park out again this summer after the splash pad opens.

Lesson learned: If there is one gate open in the entire huge park full of fun things to do, Reagan will find it.

Friday: Well, just when I thought we were done with the doctor's office and sickness for a bit, Reagan woke up with a rash covering her entire body from head to toe. Also her bug bites looked so much worse. So, on this beautiful Friday instead of heading out on an outdoor adventure we headed to the doctor's office yet again.

Poor baby is so scared of the doctor. You can see how bad the rash is on her face.

Cookie Monster came along to the doctor's too.

The rash was caused by an allergic reaction to the antibiotic she was taking for her ear infection. So they perscribed her a new antibiotic and said she could take benadryl for the rash. After we went to the doctor we just went back home and rested the rest of the day.

Saturday & Sunday: After a fun week of outdoor adventures and another doctor visit, we were excited to spend some time with Daddy. We did't do too much because the rash on Reagan was still bad.

She had only been awake for an hour on Saturday when she fell back to sleep. Benadryl makes a baby sleepy.

We headed outside for some swimming time! A toddler with the hose has all the power.

A little Elmo watching while I took a shower.

We went to Strawberry Hill for some strawberries and ice cream!

She had to sample them before we paid for them.

On Sunday we just stayed home and played in the yard.

These are apples from a tree in our yard. Reagan likes to collect them and feed them to the dogs.

Other than the rash, we had a great week with lots of fun outdoor adventures.
